According to Gartner, the top ten technologies and trends that will be strategic for most organizations in 2014 are: Mobile Device Diversity and Management, Mobile Apps and Applications, The Internet of Everything, Hybrid Cloud and IT as Service Broker, Cloud/Client Architecture, The Era of Personal Cloud, Software Defined Anything, Software Defined Anything, Smart Machines, and 3-D Printing.

Editor review:
Gartner's view on the top 10 technologies for 2014 is only interesting as a representation of the trends that are most talked about in IT circles at the moment. Inasmuch as their list is generated or at least issued to the public only as a set of statements with a paragraph on each, it is difficult to figure out how credible this list is. My sense is that this list was created more as a PR gimmick than as a trustable, exhaustive list of technologies to watch, i.e. I would be careful with thinking that if I only understand these ten, everything is ok.
