Editor review:
All White Papers are slightly self serving, and clearly ABB wants to position themselves as an leader in the emerging industry chain around charging of electric vehicles through knowledge of engineering and IT. That notwithstanding, this is an excellent overview of what's happening to EV charging stations. Previously thought of as a huge infrastructure nightmare, as EVs become commonplace, the prospect of supplying a charging station is now not a burden but a business opportunity. The most basic illustration would be to consider that the reasons Whole Foods, for instance, has EV charging stations at some of their stores is not to save the environment per se, but certainly fits their image, ensures that certain types of retail clients spend more time and money in their store, and sends a signal about environmental awareness.
