Stan Blazewicz, Vice President - Global Head of Technology, is responsible for aligning National Grid’s technology and innovation activities with its corporate strategy. He assesses emerging technologies and develops strategies, plans, and partnerships to pursue growth opportunities. Stan is an expert in energy technology and innovation management. He was Managing Director of Navigant Consulting’s Energy Research and Technology Management practice. He has held positions with Arthur D. Little, the Department of Energy, and Wartsila Diesel. Mr. Blazewicz started his career in the US Navy as a nuclear submarine officer and holds a BA in electrical engineering from SUNY Maritime College and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University.

Bastian Fischer, VP, Utilities Global Business Unit, Oracle (Paris, France)

Bastian is a recognized industry leader with an extensive experience in the Utility industry, in IT technology, customer management and smart grid & smart home area. A regular speaker on the theme of Utility industry innovation, he is an active contributor to a variety of customer thought leadership initiatives and industry press articles on international level. Before joining Oracle, Bastian Fischer held several leadership roles focusing on the Utility Industry transformation in USA, APAC and Europe. With his wealth of international experience and a profound understanding of IT as an enabler of change and innovation, he is currently leading the Oracle Utilities team in EMEA, setting the focus on strategic projects and smart grid initiatives as well as providing direction to the largest utility customers. Bastian leads the Oracle Executive Customer Advisory Board for Utilities, setting the roadmap to enabling utilities in the roll-out of smart grid projects, embracing industry breakthrough innovations and adopting new and innovative business processes. Bastian was educated in Germany and holds degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science from Universities in Stuttgart and Saarbrucken.


Julio Faura, Head of Corporate development, Banco Santander (Madrid, Spain)

Julio has a 20 year career in High Technology and Banking. He started out as chip designer, creating innovative high performance analog and digital solutions as well as complex IT systems that led to more than 30 publications in international refereed forums. He then worked for McKinsey & Co, where he specialized in Banking serving many of the top financial institutions in Spain, the rest of Europe and LatAm. In 2007 he joined Santander, where he has played several corporate leadership roles in Investment Banking, Consumer Finance, and IT&Operations, ranging from organizational and governance design to end-to-end process optimization and cost management. He has participated in many of Santander’s acquisition processes during the last four years, most notably in Poland where he also plays a supervision / coordination role to facilitate its integration within Santander Group. He currently heads Corporate Development in the IT & Operations Division, originating and leading M&A processes and carve outs within the Division. A passionate entrepreneur, and working at the forefront of the innovation strategy within Santander Group, he founds and leads internal startups, global alliances and Joint Ventures, with a special focus on eCommerce/internet and mobile payments companies and businesses. An engineer at heart, Julio holds a PhD in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering from UAM (Spain) and a MsC in Management of Technology from MIT Sloan.

Julian Herbstein, Lotus Capital (Toronto, Canada)

Julian Herbstein is the Global Head of Business Development at Lotus Capital, a role to which he brings over 20 years of experience in finance, operations and corporate development. He is in charge of Lotus’ international expansion, distribution partnerships and channel strategy. Before joining Lotus, Mr. Herbstein was the CEO of ICG Asia, a division of International Capital Group based in Hong Kong. Previously, Mr. Herbstein was a principal with the private equity group of Soros Fund Management, where he evaluated investment opportunities primarily in Asia and Latin America. Mr. Herbstein had earlier led the turnaround of a Soros portfolio company in Australia, increasing EBITDA by over 70% and generating the best call wait times in the industry. Mr. Herbstein began his career in the M&A group at Lazard Frères. He then joined News Corp’s Sky TV platform, where he led the effort to deploy satellite television in Argentina and Chile, and later co-founded govWorks, a KKR-backed software firm that helped municipal governments harness the power of the Internet to connect with their constituents, transact payments and issue licenses. Mr. Herbstein received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard and holds an MBA from Stanford Business School. He sits on the Investment Committee of CGN Private Equity in Beijing and on the board of directors of Attitude Global in São Paulo. Mr. Herbstein speaks five languages (going on six) and is an avid adventure traveler (over 70 countries).

Vegard Strand, Owner & Chairman, IQ Invest A (Trondheim, Norway)

Vegard is a serial entrepreneur & international business developer. He has been involved in the international expansion of 40+ companies helping with market penetration, financing, strategy etc. He is also an experienced CEO & Chairman of a number of international companies, mainly in the software/services business. His core competence lies within Telecom, Mobile, Bank/Finance & ERP. Vegard is an experienced speaker in the subjects of international entrepreneurship & sales/marketing.

Elaine Wong, Founder, Partner at Hao Capital (Beijing, China)

Elaine has rich experience in working with the boards and management of portfolio companies, assisting in their formation and growth, and working with management to assess/select technology (foreign and domestic) to accelerate the development of the company. Prior to HAO Capital, Ms. Wong was a member of the management of the Carlyle Group US Venture Partners and the Carlyle Group Asia Growth Equity partnership. She was also a Consultant with Arthur D. Little’s technology advisory group. Ms. Wong is the principal board representative from HAO Capital for a number of the boards of the portfolio companies and is responsible for working with the companies in strategy formulation and implementation, and in identifying industry experts and advisors to work with the management of the companies. Ms. Wong graduated from MIT with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and has an MBA from Stanford University.


Richard Golob, CEO, GGA Software

Richard Golob has extensive experience working with companies that are developing complex software applications and that are undertaking large databases and content-based projects. With a background that spans the publishing, pharmaceutical/biotechnology, and financial worlds, Richard understands the technical, scientific, and business needs of GGA's clients. Prior to co-founding GGA, he served as interim president and chief executive officer of two software companies and as a board member of numerous early-stage technology companies. Previously, Richard was a leading expert in the environmental and energy fields, where he consulted for the United Nations, worked for national governments such as Kuwait and Mozambique, and wrote a critically acclaimed book on renewable energy technologies. He has served as an adviser to the venture capital firm Charles River Ventures and as chairman of an advisory group at the Harvard School of Public Health. Currently, he serves as president and board member of the United Nations Association of Greater Boston, and as board member of the U.S.-Russia Chamber of Commerce of New England. Richard graduated from Harvard College with an A.B. degree in biochemical sciences.


Lucy Lombardi, SVP, Industry Relations & Cross Business Projects, Telecom Italia

Lucy Lombardi is currently responsible for Industry Relations reporting directly to Telecom Italia's group CEO, in order to help shape the business going forward in terms of standards, identifying business opportunities and proactively contribute to refocus regulation. She is also responsible for developing business and strategic partnerships. Heading up a cross functional department, she also coordinates the business development and project management of activities that don't fall naturally under any one area. She is also director of business initiatives at the GSM Association. Lombardi started out in software development in C++ before moving into satellite radiometry after winning a competition at the European Space Agency. Moving into the mobile industry in 1996, she has held a number of positions at the Italian incumbent carrier, straddling everything from technology (she served as technical roaming manager), to services development, and business strategies. She left TIM in 2000 to join Italian start-up operator BLU, which was broken up in 2002, when she rejoined the incumbent. It is perhaps in the standards environment that she has wielded the most influence, however. Lombardi has served three terms as Chair of the GSMA/IREG (Interworking and Roaming Experts Group) international Working Group from 1999 to 2006. She holds a master’s degree in physics from the University of Rome which included a thesis on an original research project studying infrared radiometry for advanced robotics.
