SUMMARY: 

Crowdsourcing, the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people and especially from an online community, is currently moving up the value chain. Big clients are entrusting strategic projects to distributed teams they have never met. Hybrid models are emerging. The big five consultancies deploy expert networks for many specialist investigations. These are not just the traditional expert networks servicing Wall Street. Rather, a myriad of players have emerged, with an impressive array of experts as part of their just in time, on demand workforce. This is not what was earlier envisaged as freelance nation but is coordinated through new internet age brands. What's happening right now? Who are these new players? What can scientists, academics, and industry professionals gain from trying it out? What can corporations gain from including expert networks in their quest for knowledge and input on business challenges they are facing?
