WHO aims at empowering high burden, low- and middle-income countries to develop a strong and self-sustained TB research community. This is needed to reach the ambitious targets set by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. WHO references the need for new tech, point-of-care diagnostics for infection and disease, shorter regimens for infection and disease, and an effective vaccine. The main recommendation is to form national TB research networks in affected countries, which seems wise, but perhaps not sufficient. Its very good to see Tuberculosis gaining some traction within the MDGs, I would however personally still advocate a fully integrated approach. Thank you Trondau for highlighting this.
